Medienwerkstatt Wien was founded in 1978 as a non-commercial, collectively run video studio. With the implementation of several participatory media projects, it became the most important Austrian center for independent media production in the early 1980s. It is thus one of the longest-standing functioning models that has reflected, communicated and contributed to the permanent development of media art in both the technological and theoretical fields. It has an exhibition space of approx. 80 square meters.
