Nour Sokhon, Joanna Zabielska: Do You Hear the Silence?

30.5.–1.6.2025

Nour Sokhon, Joanna Zabielska

What do we associate with the absence of noise, sound, and voices? What is revealed in silence?
Starting from a shared reflection on silence—as a form of protest, a sign of acceptance of the status quo, a space for meditation and self-reflection, a ritual element, or the result of being silenced—Nour Sokhon and Joanna Zabielska present a jointly conceived installation in public space. This takes the form of an inflatable, walk-in sculpture that offers a place of refuge and contemplation. In the participatory format of listening rituals, visitors are guided into the bubble and invited to pause, breathe, block out the surrounding soundscape, and listen to the silence.

The project is the outcome of the artistic collaboration of Nour Sokhon and Joanna Zabielska, which started in April with the exhibition Car(ry)ing Memories at philomena+. Nour Sokhon’s residency in Vienna is a cooperation between philomena+ and kulturen in bewegung.
